Vijnana Habba

Most of our memories revolve around festivals and celebrations with friends and families. Vijnana Vahini believes that creating such experiences for the students in the Government Higher Primary Schools (GHPS) would develop a platform for the students to interact and compete with peers from neighboring schools and in-turn trigger creativity and the spirit of inquiry among them.

Vijnana Habba 2015 - 2016 was an effort on these lines to bring together students from several schools. Organized at Bidarahalli, Bankavadi and Kothegala on 25th, 27th and 30th November, the program had a participation of 510 students from 51 schools across 8 clusters of H D Kote taluk. Students played 4 games based on basic mathematical operations and participated in the science quiz.

All the games were new to the students. They were explained to the kids and were refereed by the teachers from the Government schools themselves. The participation and the ownership exhibited by the teachers was a sign of the rapport with Vijnana Vahini.

The teachers of the schools hosting the event took complete responsibility of the arrangements and the logistics. The event was a grand success in all the locations and was also covered in the local media.

One of the unique features of the program was the absence of formal inaugural and closing programs. Keeping the child at the centre, it was decided to reduce the formal programs and all speeches - something which was also appreciated by the teacher community.

Girls seemed to dominate in all competitions - this was one of the key learnings for the team. The support from the local community through the SDMC was very encouraging. The programs created a buzz in the village and the students have already started talking about the preparations for the next year.

The program was supported by Oracle.
